Memorial Day 2007

In memory of those who served selflessly and gave all.

In memory of and to honor our female soldiers. They supposedly don't serve in combat roles. But our Defense Department lies. Many mothers, sisters and daughters have fallen in Iraq. Many who have returned home, are suffering not only the physical and mental scars of war, but are treated as wimps and whiners by their own V.A.

To honor soldiers who have faced the ugliness of war, cried for their lost comrades, and come home to horrible treatment at Walter Reed when they should receive the very best America has to offer. May we rise up in protest and give them the health care they need and deserve!

And to my brave soldier, my partner, my life. Her time in Iraq cost her much. But she wore the uniform with pride and served in spite of terrible conditions and a lying President. She will always be my hero.

Today, as you meet people through your journey, thank a soldier. Thank them for their selfless service. Thank them for being brave. Thank them for our freedom. Because without their willingness to sacrifice, there would be no America.

Jerry Falwell

Merry Meet again...

Rev. Falwell's passing is, of course, headline news. I'm sure everyone in the blogosphere is weighing in. So I wanted to share my own thoughts. Feel free to share your own.

Rev. Falwell had such an opportunity to truly reach an entire generation or two. He started with just a few folks and the ministry grew into tens of thousands, including a church and college. The shame of it all is that, because of his hatred and bigotry as shown in his words and actions over the years, turned him into nothing more than a cartoon.

Remember when Jim Bakker was ousted at PTL? Who was it who jumped right into the fray and took the entire ministry lock, stock and barrel? Jerry. I often wonder if he and other ministers conspired to do this thing. It all seemed too neat and convenient. It's sad when you look at ministers and have to even consider that they weren't above board.

What about 9/11? Falwell jumped right on everyone's pain by blaming gays, pagans, witches and others for what happened that awful day. Why? Falwell used any open opportunity to spew his hatred. It didn't matter to him that an entire country was hurting. He wanted to take jabs at those he considered less holy than himself.

Then there was TinkyWinky, the Teletubby with the purse. He ranted and raved that Tinky Winky was gay! A little kids fluffy program character! This one was predicated on Tinky having a triangle on his/her head, being lavender in color and carrying a purse. Good heavens. The man needed a life.

Jerry spent his time on this earth berating people and fighting against every civil right for people not like himself. Call me crazy, but the Jesus I see in the Bible was patient, tolerant and accepting of all people. The ones Jesus busted were the religious leaders who hung albatrosses around the necks of the people. Jerry was an albatross hanger. Anyone different was the recipient of his ire.

When one must take stock of a life, especially one that was supposed to be an exemplary Christian one, one looks for the hallmarks of Yeshua: gentleness, kindness, patience, compassion, tolerance, self-control. Am I the only one who did not see these in Rev. Falwell?

Well, his time to persecute the world is over. If one believes in the afterworld, Falwell is now realizing how wrong he truly was. Goddess-willing, he will re-enter the world a wiser soul.

Blessed be...

New People. New Challenges.

Merry Meet, gentle readers...

It's been awhile and the journey continues. I've faced some pretty serious health concerns the past few weeks. And there's more to come. But just when I think I will cave in to feelings of self-involvement, Goddess brings people into my life to lift me up and challenge me to walk further along the spirit path.

Today was one of those days.

A forum in which I participate has had some great activity lately. Out of that, I had the blessed opportunity to meet someone. This person brings a wealth of spiritual experience and scholarship. I found myself mesmerized as we talked. As you know, this is a relatively new journey for me and I come to crossroads where I'm not sure which fork in the road to take. This has been that time for me. But in speaking with this wonderful new-found friend, I see the journey continues laid out before me as a wonderful walk through a thick wood.

The Goddess lays out before me a place of splendor and what is required of me is to take the path. The trees cover the pathway and each offers its own lesson as I stop and meditate on their beauty and purpose. The wet earth gives senses a rush. There is something about wet earth that is empowering! Each person who enters my life and brings positive energy is like the tree or wet earth to my soul.

So, I am energized today. I am encouraged that I have found my path; my spirit journey. I continue to seek Goddess and reverence Her creation in all I do. And I stand amazed at how Goddess brings those encouragers to our lives when we need them most.

Blessed be!
